Opening for 1-2 stalls in the main barn for new boarders this winter! Contact Babette at mbj350 @ gmail . com for more information.
The main barn has seven over-sized stalls, each with a large outside window. The walls are insulated block and timber. Stall floors are made of Equestall flooring which is both cushioned and drains well. There is a twelve foot wide center aisle, large tack room with toilet, indoor and outdoor wash stalls, radiant floor heat in tack and wash room, and hot and cold water. The barn has superior ventilation and lighting. Five of the stalls overlook the Buck and Doe Run River which flows into the Brandywine River at the end of the 1/3 mile driveway. A four stall shed row barn with Equestall flooring and automatic Nelson waterers neighbors the main barn. There is also a six stall barn with rubber-matted floors, automatic waterers, and a loafing shed that adjoins one of the larger fields.
Laurels Forge Farm has excellent turnout in large pastures with HorseGuard or diamond mesh fencing. There is a turf square with schooling jumps, a sand ring, and a sand round pen. There are numerous opportunities for local cross-country schooling. The farm is directly adjacent to the 700 acre Laurels Nature Preserve and is surrounded by 10,000 acres of deed-restricted farmland with many miles of trails and fields for hacking. We are in the heart of the Cheshire Hunt country and close to a number of renowned horse trainers and competitors.
Full board includes grain and hay, stall cleaning, daily turnout, feeding 2 times per day, blanketing or fly control, checking for scrapes and soundness, and other routine treatment as ordered by your vet. We feed generous amounts of excellent timothy, orchard grass, and alfalfa mix hay. Stalls are bedded with either straw or Barnyard Products bedding which is made from highly absorbent and pH neutral corrugated cardboard. Legging-up and schooling horses or grooming can be coordinated for an extra cost. Turnout is in small groups of five or less horses of the same sex. We only accept horses who “play well with others.” Pastures are lush and we have a couple small paddocks for lay-ups or dieters.
Our farm is an ideal location for someone who wants to enjoy unlimited hacking through some of the best and most open countryside between Washington, D.C. and New York City. We provide top notch care of your horses, and truly treat them as if they were our own. The barn is overseen by Babette Jenny, who lives and works on the property and is the daughter of two veterinarians and a pony club graduate. As my psychology office is also on the farm, I can accommodate special care schedules as needed.
All horses must have up-to-date coggins, rabies, tetanus, and botulism. We coordinate fecal egg counts and de-worming plans according to low, medium, and high shedders each year. The cost of all vet, dental, farrier, medicine, and feed supplements must be paid directly by you. We can recommend excellent veterinary and farrier services if you do not have your own. Our horses are three-day eventers, dressage horses, pleasure horses, and one broodmare.
